People in the Palatwa area have noticed that there are increased water shortages as logging goes on in this region. Other threats resulting from deforestation also include bush fires in the hot season and land slides during the rainy season.

The Khumi Youth Association has decided to organize an environmental campaign to address these problems. Three hundred youth will take part in the campaign by attending workshops where they will learn about environmental protection and then planting 3000 trees along the banks of selected rivers and streams.

the Khumi Youth Association hopes that this activity will become an annual event with other activities growing out of this commitment of the youth to environmental protection.
